Nuno Maciel, Madeira's Regional Secretary of Agriculture and Fisheries, praises the high quality and innovative spirit of the island's artisanal crafts, which continue to attract both residents and tourists.

Nuno Maciel, the Regional Secretary of Agriculture and Fisheries for Madeira, recently emphasized the outstanding quality and innovative spirit of the island's artisanal crafts. During a visit to the Instituto do Vinho, do Bordado e do Artesanato da Madeira (IVBAM) stand at the Placa Central, he acknowledged the growing demand and interest in Madeira's handicrafts among both locals and tourists.

The IVBAM stand, part of the bustling Avenida Arriaga, serves as a showcase for the island's unique cultural crafts. Visitors can explore a variety of traditional arts, including ceramics, cooperage, and items crafted from straw, wood, and stone. This initiative is not only about increasing sales but also about preserving Madeira's cultural identity and promoting the skills of local artisans.

Maciel noted that these efforts have paid off, with vendors reporting strong sales, especially during the holiday season. The stand operates under the theme 'This Christmas, Give Madeira Handicrafts,' aiming to increase awareness and appreciation of these unique products among both residents and visitors.

Throughout the year, IVBAM organizes various activities to promote and enhance the value of Madeira's handicrafts. Their objective is to preserve traditional crafts while encouraging innovation that attracts new audiences. This blend of tradition and innovation is what makes Madeira's crafts stand out in the global market.

"Above all, we want to preserve our crafts and promote our cultural identity," Maciel stated, highlighting the importance of this initiative for the region's cultural heritage.
