A new regulatory framework for Funchal Port is set to be unveiled by the end of February, following suspension of protests by TáxisRAM amid accusations of unfair competition.

In a significant move towards resolving ongoing disputes at Funchal Port, the Secretaria Regional de Economia, along with taxistas, tour operators, and cruise ship agents, have returned to negotiations. The primary contention has been raised by the association TáxisRAM, which accuses other operators of engaging in unfair competition.

The discussions aim to establish a new regulatory framework that accommodates all stakeholders, ensuring fair play and efficient operations at the port. This initiative is crucial for maintaining the port's reputation as one of the finest in Madeira, renowned for its impeccable service, as highlighted by Liliana Vieira from BC Tours Portugal.

Paulo Pereira, president of TáxisRAM, confirmed the suspension of protests for the next 30 days while awaiting the outcomes of the working group's proposal. "We will wait for APRAM's response and align with all parties to ensure continued smooth operations," Pereira remarked.

APRAM's President, Paula Cabaço, has played a pivotal role in documenting the concerns of the taxi operators and facilitating dialogue with other stakeholders. The AITRAM, representing other taxi operators, has expressed willingness to consider regulatory improvements for the benefit of all parties involved.

The anticipated proposal aims to introduce balanced regulations that cater to diverse interests at the port, ensuring its continued success as a hub for tourism and local transportation.
