Madeira GuideThe Solar do Santo in Santo António da Serra is set to expand, offering ten additional spots for elderly residents thanks to funding from the PRR.
The future of elderly care in Madeira looks brighter as the Solar do Santo, located in the picturesque parish of Santo António da Serra, plans to expand its facilities. This expansion aims to provide an additional ten spots for elderly care, enhancing the region's capacity to support its aging population.
Funded by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), this initiative is a significant step towards improving social services for the elderly in Madeira. The expansion is part of a broader strategy to offer more comprehensive and humanized care solutions to the local community.
During a recent visit, Paula Margarido, the Regional Secretary for Inclusion, Work, and Youth, alongside Nivalda Gonçalves, President of the Madeira Social Security Institute, discussed potential solutions to optimize the building's available space. The discussions focused on the possibility of redesigning the facility to accommodate more residents.
The project, promoted by the Associação Casa do Voluntário, involves a substantial investment of approximately 6 million euros. The Solar do Santo is designed to function not just as an institution, but as a home that provides a warm, safe, and supportive environment, combating social isolation among its residents.
Currently, the facility offers 54 residential spots and 20 day-care spots. With the proposed expansion, it aims to better meet the needs of the elderly community, ensuring their dignity and continuous care. This initiative underscores the regional government's commitment to enhancing local elder care facilities and providing services tailored to the needs of Madeira's families.
