Multiple Vehicle Incidents Challenge Madeira's Emergency Services

This past Tuesday, Madeira experienced a string of vehicular incidents that tested the island's emergency response capabilities. From early morning to late evening, the island's roads became the scene of multiple accidents requiring urgent attention from local firefighting units.
Fire in Serra de Água
At approximately 18:30, a vehicle caught fire on the expressway in Serra de Água, just before the Encumeada tunnel. The Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol Volunteer Firefighters were quick to respond with two vehicles and seven personnel. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished by the time they arrived, minimizing potential damage.
Rollover at Hospital Roundabout
Earlier in the day, at around 5:30 AM, the Funchal Municipal Firefighters were called to a rollover accident at the roundabout near the hospital. The driver, in his 30s, managed to exit the vehicle on his own and was later taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further evaluation.
Accident on Estrada do Lazareto
In another incident, a car veered off the road on the Estrada do Lazareto, crashing into a wall and catching fire. The Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters were dispatched with two vehicles and ten team members. The driver suffered a head injury and was treated on-site before being transported to the hospital.
These incidents underscore the importance of maintaining road safety and the readiness of Madeira's emergency services. The quick response by various firefighting teams ensured that all situations were handled efficiently and effectively, preventing further harm and disruption.
