In a series of unfortunate events, Funchal witnessed multiple traffic incidents over the past two days, raising concerns about road safety in the region. These incidents have drawn attention to the need for improved safety measures on Madeira Island's roads, particularly in high-traffic areas.

Earlier, on January 14, 2026, two female passengers were injured due to a sudden stop of a public bus on Rua Conselheiro José Silvestre Ribeiro. A 77-year-old woman sustained rib fractures, while a 63-year-old suffered facial bruising. Both were treated and transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

Collision Between Motorcycle and Car

On the same day, the emergency services were also called to Estrada dos Marmeleiros in response to a collision between a motorcycle and a car. The motorcyclist, aged 39, reported injuries to his cervical spine and knee, necessitating immobilization on a spine board. The car's driver, a 57-year-old woman, was treated for shock and nervousness. Both individuals received medical attention at Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.
