A series of incidents unfolded overnight in Madeira, including a car rollover, multiple assaults in Funchal, and fires in Caniço and Chamorra. Emergency services were mobilized swiftly, ensuring public safety.

In the early hours of April 2, 2026, Madeira witnessed a series of incidents that kept emergency services on high alert. The most significant of these was a car rollover at the entrance of the expressway in São Martinho, heading towards Funchal from Câmara de Lobos. The accident, which occurred around 3 a.m., fortunately resulted in no injuries, although the vehicle sustained considerable damage. Five vehicles from the Funchal fire brigade were dispatched to the scene to secure the area and manage the situation.

In a separate incident, Funchal experienced three assaults during the same night. The Funchal fire brigade was called to action once more, responding to two assaults near the São Martinho roundabout around 2 a.m. Two men, one in his 30s and another in his 40s, suffered cuts and bruises. Later, around 5 a.m., another assault occurred on Avenida Zarco, involving a man in his 50s who was reportedly intoxicated. The PSP, Madeira's police force, was also involved, and the injured were transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for medical attention.

Additionally, a fire broke out at Estrada das Fontes in Caniço, prompting a response from three fire brigades: the Sapadores de Santa Cruz, the Voluntary Firefighters of Madeira, and the Sapadores of Funchal. This incident occurred near the expressway and was quickly addressed by the emergency teams.

Earlier, on April 1, a vehicle was completely destroyed by fire on Caminho Velho da Chamorra. The Funchal fire brigade was again called to action, deploying 11 firefighters and three vehicles to extinguish the flames.

These incidents highlight the readiness and efficiency of Madeira's emergency services in addressing various emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of both residents and visitors.
