Fires in Waste Containers
On the night of January 29th and into the early hours of January 30th, several waste containers in Funchal were deliberately set on fire. The first fire was reported near the Hotel Meliã around 11:30 PM, followed by additional incidents on Rua da Carreira and Rua de São Francisco. The Funchal Fire Brigade was dispatched to the scenes with nine personnel, equipped with a heavy vehicle and an ambulance, to extinguish the fires and ensure public safety.
Traffic Accident on Estrada de São João
Earlier on January 29th, a traffic accident occurred on Estrada de São João involving two vehicles. A woman involved in the side collision suffered chest injuries and was attended to by the Portuguese Red Cross before being transported to the Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça for further treatment. The incident underscores the importance of road safety measures and the prompt response of emergency services.
Unexplained Death at Madeira Tecnopólo
In another tragic event, a man in his 40s was found dead near the Madeira Tecnopólo. Emergency services, including the EMIR and the Public Security Police (PSP), responded quickly to the scene. Initial investigations suggest that the death was not due to a sudden illness or criminal activity, although further inquiries are underway to determine the exact cause.
