Câmara de Lobos hosts the tenth edition of the Mega Bolo-Rei event, a beloved tradition attracting locals and tourists alike for a taste of the festive cake.

The picturesque town of Câmara de Lobos on Madeira Island is once again abuzz with excitement as it hosts the tenth edition of the Mega Bolo-Rei event this Sunday. Organized by the Câmara Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, this annual celebration has become a cherished tradition for both locals and visitors.

The event will be held at the Mercado Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, where the grand assembly of the Bolo-Rei, a traditional Portuguese king cake, will take place. The official presentation is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the much-anticipated cutting and distribution of the cake to all attendees.

This year, the event is graced by the presence of Miguel Albuquerque, the President of the Regional Government, who will join Celso Bettencourt, the Mayor of Câmara de Lobos, in the cake distribution. Their participation underscores the cultural and social significance of the event within the community.

Bolo-Rei, typically enjoyed during the festive season, is a symbol of Portuguese culinary heritage. It is traditionally made with a rich dough, nuts, and candied fruits, and often includes a small trinket and a dried fava bean, adding an element of surprise and tradition.

Câmara de Lobos, known for its vibrant fishing culture and scenic landscapes, provides a perfect backdrop for this festive gathering. The Mega Bolo-Rei event not only celebrates local traditions but also strengthens community ties and attracts tourists, contributing to the local economy.
