Câmara de Lobos hosts its tenth annual Mega King Cake event, featuring a colossal 265-kilogram cake and community festivities.

This Sunday, Câmara de Lobos, a picturesque town on Madeira Island, will host its tenth annual Mega King Cake event. The event is part of the Christmas festivities organized by the City Council and promises to be a delightful experience for both locals and visitors.

The highlight of the celebration is the presentation of a massive King Cake, also known as 'Bolo-Rei'. Weighing 265 kilograms and stretching 180 meters, this cake is a testament to the community spirit and culinary expertise of the region. The cake is prepared by Panidoce, a local bakery, involving around 20 people in its making, from baking to decoration and logistics.

The event will commence at 11:00 AM in the Municipal Market of Câmara de Lobos. If the weather does not cooperate, the event will be moved indoors. Attendees will enjoy slices of the cake along with 48 liters of cherry liqueur served in chocolate cups, enhancing the festive atmosphere.

Local dignitaries, including Miguel Albuquerque, the President of the Regional Government, and Celso Bettencourt, the Mayor of Câmara de Lobos, will be present to partake in the celebrations. Their participation underscores the event's significance in promoting local culture and tourism.

This event not only celebrates a culinary tradition but also serves as a gathering point for the community, reinforcing ties and showcasing Madeira's rich cultural heritage. Visitors are encouraged to join in and experience the warm hospitality of Câmara de Lobos.
