The Port Authority of Funchal has updated its warning of strong maritime agitation for Madeira, set to last until 6 PM on Wednesday, April 8th. This advisory comes as a response to expected strong winds and high wave activity that could impact both local residents and tourists on the island.
According to the latest reports, winds are anticipated to blow from the north/northwest, initially at a fresh to very fresh pace, reaching speeds between 31 to 50 km/h. These winds are expected to intensify during the afternoon, potentially reaching very fresh to strong levels with speeds between 51 and 61 km/h.
Visibility across the island will generally be good to moderate, although it may decrease to poor at times during the afternoon as weather conditions change.
Wave Conditions
Wave heights are expected to vary significantly around the island. On the northern coast, waves from the northwest are predicted to range from 2 to 3.5 meters, increasing to 4 to 5 meters. On the southern coast, waves from the south/southwest are expected to be between 1 to 2 meters, temporarily increasing to 2 to 3 meters in the western parts of the island.
Such conditions are not uncommon for Madeira, an island known for its rugged coastline and maritime climate. Residents and visitors are advised to remain informed about local weather updates and exercise caution, particularly in coastal areas.
Madeira's Port Authority frequently issues such warnings to ensure public safety, encouraging the community to stay vigilant and prepared for changing weather conditions.
