The Maritime Authority in Funchal extends the rough sea warning for Madeira until December 23rd, urging caution among maritime communities and residents.

Funchal's Maritime Authority has once again extended the warning for strong maritime agitation affecting Madeira. This advisory, initially issued last Thursday, will remain in effect until 6 PM on December 23rd. The extension comes as a precautionary measure for both maritime communities and the general public, based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

According to the IPMA, the northern coast of Madeira is expected to experience waves reaching up to 4.5 meters, while the southern coast will see milder conditions with waves not exceeding 2 meters. The weather update also predicts moderate to fresh northerly winds shifting to a northwesterly direction, with speeds ranging between 20-39 km/h, reducing to 12-29 km/h.

Visibility is anticipated to remain good despite the maritime disturbances. The authorities emphasize the importance of adhering to safety guidelines, particularly for those involved in maritime activities, to prevent accidents and ensure safety during this period of adverse weather conditions.

Madeira, known for its stunning coastal landscapes and as a popular tourist destination, frequently experiences such maritime conditions, especially during winter months. Residents and tourists are advised to stay informed through official channels and to exercise caution near coastal areas.

The continuous updates from the Maritime Authority and IPMA highlight the need for preparedness and awareness to mitigate the impact of the rough seas on the island's daily life and activities.
