The Captaincy of Funchal has updated and extended the maritime agitation alert for the northern coast of Madeira, warning of strong winds and high waves expected until tomorrow.

The Captaincy of the Port of Funchal has issued a weather alert for maritime agitation, updating the forecast for the northern coast of Madeira. This alert will remain in effect until 6 AM tomorrow, January 14th, as strong winds and high waves are expected to impact the region.

The maritime conditions are anticipated to be challenging, with northwesterly winds initially blowing fresh to very fresh at speeds between 31 and 50 km/h. These winds are expected to gradually shift to a northern direction by the end of the day, reducing in intensity to moderate to fresh.

Visibility will generally be good to moderate, although it may decrease at times due to the adverse weather conditions. The Captaincy advises maritime operators and the public to exercise caution and follow safety recommendations while the alert is in place.

The northern coast is expected to experience significant wave activity, adding to the potential hazards for seafarers and coastal activities. The authorities emphasize the importance of staying informed and avoiding unnecessary maritime travel during this period.

This alert is particularly relevant for residents and tourists who may be planning activities near the coast. Madeira's unique geographical position often subjects it to sudden weather changes, making it crucial for individuals to stay updated on local weather forecasts.
