The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere has upgraded the maritime agitation alert to orange for Madeira's north coast and Porto Santo due to anticipated strong waves.

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has elevated the maritime agitation alert from yellow to orange for the northern coast of Madeira and the island of Porto Santo. This change comes as a response to the forecast of strong northwesterly waves, expected to reach significant heights of 4 to 5 meters.

The alert is set to be in effect from 9:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, until 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 8. During this period, residents and tourists are advised to exercise caution, particularly if engaging in coastal activities.

Madeira, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant tourism, often experiences such weather advisories. These alerts are crucial for ensuring the safety of both locals and visitors, particularly in areas known for their rugged coastlines.

Porto Santo, a smaller island north of Madeira, is similarly affected by this alert. Known for its sandy beaches, the island is a popular destination during this time of year, making awareness and adherence to safety guidelines essential.

The IPMA's warnings are part of a broader system of alerts aimed at minimizing the risk of accidents and ensuring public safety amidst natural weather changes. These alerts are communicated widely to ensure maximum reach and effectiveness.
