The Orquestra Clássica da Madeira, accompanied by tenor Alberto Sousa and under the baton of maestro Gianluca Marcianò, rings in 2026 with a grand New Year concert at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theater.

The New Year in Madeira was ushered in with the harmonious sounds of the Orquestra Clássica da Madeira (OCM), which held its traditional New Year concert at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theater. This annual event, supported by the Funchal City Council, is a staple in Madeira's cultural calendar, attracting both locals and tourists.

This year, the orchestra was joined by the celebrated Madeiran tenor Alberto Sousa. The performance was conducted by the renowned Italian maestro Gianluca Marcianò, who has been praised by the Sunday Times for his "unfailingly theatrical and idiomatic direction."

The concert featured two sessions, held at 5 PM and 8 PM, allowing for greater accessibility and enjoyment by audiences. The diverse program included classical pieces that captivated the audience, setting a festive and hopeful tone for the year ahead.

The collaborative effort between local and international artists highlights Madeira's commitment to cultural excellence and its ability to bring world-class performances to the island, enhancing its reputation as a top cultural destination.

In addition to the musical spectacle, the island also celebrated with a vibrant display of lights and colors throughout its streets, offering a visual treat that complemented the musical festivities.
