The Madeira government has announced financial support totaling €116,400 for 86 beekeepers as part of the PEPAC initiative, aiming to promote sustainable beekeeping practices.

The Madeira government has taken a significant step to support the island's beekeeping industry by approving financial aid totaling €116,400. This aid will be distributed among 86 beekeepers under the Plan Estratégico da Política Agrícola Comum (PEPAC), marking the first approved investment projects under this initiative.

Announced by the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries, this three-year agro-environmental support aims to ensure that beekeepers adhere to more stringent prophylactic practices, which come at a higher cost than those stipulated by current legislation.

The announcement was made during the Honey and Poncha Show in Serra de Água, an event celebrating two of Madeira's iconic products. The show not only highlights the rich agricultural heritage of the island but also serves as a platform for local producers to showcase their products.

Madeira, known for its unique flora and fauna, provides an ideal environment for beekeeping. The support through PEPAC is expected to bolster the industry, encourage sustainable practices, and enhance the quality of honey produced on the island.

By investing in sustainable agriculture, Madeira continues to prioritize environmental conservation alongside economic development, ensuring that its natural resources are preserved for future generations.
