Madeira's Water Management Reform Hinges on Municipal Collaboration
Madeira GuideThe regional secretary emphasizes the need for unified municipal participation to standardize Madeira's water management system.
During a recent demonstration of a new waste collection truck by ARM, Victor Hugo, the regional secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries, emphasized the necessity of a unified municipal approach to reform Madeira's water management system. This comes in light of recent changes in municipal leadership across the island.
The diverse water management solutions currently in place across Madeira's municipalities pose significant challenges to achieving a cohesive regional system. The secretary underscored that without a common policy and full participation from all municipalities, harmonizing the system will remain elusive.
“It depends on a common policy among all municipalities and their full adherence,” stated Nuno Maciel, highlighting the importance of collaboration.
This initiative gains momentum with the election of new municipal presidents, offering an opportunity to revisit and potentially standardize water management practices. ARM, a key player in the island's waste and water management sectors, remains central to these discussions.
