The PS party is advocating for the removal of mandatory registrations for Madeira residents to access local trails, aiming to simplify access and promote local tourism.

In a bid to enhance local tourism and simplify access to Madeira's renowned hiking trails, the Partido Socialista (PS) has submitted a proposal to the Assembleia Legislativa da Madeira. This proposal aims to abolish the current requirement mandating Madeira residents to register before accessing the island's classified walking paths.

The proposal, set to be discussed in the regional parliament on Wednesday, marks the second amendment to the Legal Regime of Pedestrian Routes. The PS has been a vocal critic of the registration requirement since its inception, arguing that it imposes unnecessary barriers for locals wishing to explore the island's natural beauty.

Andreia Dias Ferro, a representative of the PS, emphasized that the party has consistently led efforts to eliminate this obligation, viewing it as a hindrance to both residents and the promotion of local culture and tourism.

Madeira, known for its spectacular landscapes and extensive network of levadas (irrigation channels), is a popular destination for hikers. The island's trails not only offer breathtaking views but also serve as a vital part of its cultural heritage and tourism industry.

By removing the registration requirement, the PS hopes to encourage more residents to engage with local trails, fostering a deeper connection to their environment while boosting the island's appeal to tourists. This change is anticipated to make the trails more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

This initiative by the PS is about reclaiming the right of residents to freely enjoy and preserve the natural treasures of Madeira without bureaucratic hurdles.
