Madeira's Jaime Moniz High School Engages in European Insular Conferences
Madeira GuideJaime Moniz High School actively participated in the third edition of the Insular Conferences on Europe, held in Funchal, focusing on youth perspectives and regional development.
Jaime Moniz High School, located in the heart of Funchal, Madeira, took an active role in the III Insular Conferences on Europe, which occurred on March 13 and 14. The event was organized by the National Federation of European Studies (FNEE) in collaboration with the Funchal City Council and Europe Direct Madeira.
The conferences aimed to engage young people in discussions about the European project and Madeira's role as an outermost region. Various activities were planned, including debates on youth perspectives and a quiz about the European Union.
The program also included sessions on the impact of European funds on the region and a 'peddy-paper,' a scavenger hunt, leading participants through sites in Funchal that have benefited from these funds. Such activities highlighted the tangible benefits of European integration.
An important aspect of the event was the discussion of opportunities provided by European programs like Erasmus+, which were praised for enhancing skills, broadening horizons, and promoting Madeiran culture beyond its borders. The growing interest among associations in developing European projects was also noted, alongside challenges in engaging youth.
The conferences concluded with a debate titled 'My Island is also Europe,' featuring key speakers such as Dr. Fernanda Cardoso, Regional Director of European Affairs, and Dr. André Alves, Regional Director of Youth. Their participation underscored the significance of youth involvement in European citizenship.
