Madeira Launches First Instructor Course for Cadets and Infants Firefighter School

The Regional Civil Protection Service of Madeira (SRPC, IP-RAM) is spearheading an innovative initiative by launching the first Course for Instructors of the Cadets and Infants Firefighter School. This groundbreaking program is being held from May 14 to 16 at the SRPC Training Center, in collaboration with the National Firefighters School.

The course, which welcomes 18 firefighters from the region, is designed to bolster pedagogical and technical competencies, particularly in mentoring young individuals aged 6 to 17. These youths are part of the Cadets and Infants Schools, programs integrated within the local firefighter corps. The initiative aims to extend the network of these schools across the Autonomous Region of Madeira, fostering a culture of safety and citizenship.

Richard Marques, the president of the SRPC, emphasized the strategic importance of this course, noting its role in promoting volunteerism among the youth. This effort is supported by the European Social Fund+ under the Madeira 2030 Program, highlighting its significance as a long-term investment in the region's volunteer firefighting force.

Currently, Madeira hosts two Cadet and Infant Schools located in Câmara de Lobos and Santana, engaging over 80 young participants. The 20-hour course represents a vital step in ensuring the sustainability and growth of these programs, which are crucial for fostering values of citizenship, solidarity, and safety.

The course's opening was attended by notable figures including Marco Martins, Member of the Board of the National Firefighters School. The presence of such dignitaries underscores the course's importance and the commitment to enhancing the skills of those responsible for guiding the next generation of firefighters in Madeira.
