Madeira Firefighters Equipped with High-Temperature Vehicle Fire Blankets
Madeira GuideMadeira's firefighters receive advanced fire blankets to enhance vehicle fire response, aiming to limit damage and ensure safety in densely populated areas.
In a significant move to bolster fire safety in Madeira, the Serviço Regional de Proteção Civil, IP-RAM, has distributed special fire blankets to the island's firefighters. This initiative aims to enhance their ability to combat vehicle fires, a frequent occurrence that poses a high risk in urban and road environments.
The investment, valued at over 30,000 euros, equips all ten fire departments across Madeira with VLITEX Premium blankets, known for their resilience to extreme temperatures up to 1300º C. These blankets are designed to cover vehicles in flames, preventing the spread of fire and toxic smoke, particularly in high-risk areas such as parking lots and tunnels.
This strategic enhancement is part of the broader Sistema Integrado de Operações de Proteção e Socorro (SIOPS), which seeks to improve the region's emergency response capabilities. With nearly a hundred vehicle fires reported annually, the new equipment is essential for minimizing damage and ensuring the safety of both intervention teams and nearby residents.
Training sessions are being conducted at each fire station by experienced instructors from the Companhia de Bombeiros Sapadores do Funchal. These sessions ensure that all personnel are proficient in the use of this innovative equipment, further strengthening Madeira's emergency response system.
The adoption of these advanced fire blankets underscores Madeira's commitment to safety and innovation, adapting its emergency services to contemporary challenges and ensuring the well-being of its residents and visitors alike.
