Madeira Firefighters Equipped with Advanced Vehicle Fire Blankets
Madeira GuideMadeira's firefighters receive specialized fire blankets to combat vehicle fires, enhancing public safety through advanced technology and training.
In a significant move to enhance public safety, the Regional Government of Madeira has equipped its firefighters with specialized fire blankets designed to combat vehicle fires. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve the region's emergency response capabilities.
The blankets, which are sourced from the German company VLITEX, are capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1300°C. This investment, exceeding 30,000 euros, aims to provide all ten fire brigades across Madeira with these advanced tools. The initiative addresses the frequent occurrence of vehicle fires, averaging nearly one hundred annually.
These large blankets are particularly useful in densely populated areas, such as parking lots and tunnels, where swift action is crucial to prevent the spread of fires and reduce toxic smoke emissions. By quickly extinguishing fires, they help ensure the safety of both the public and emergency responders.
Training sessions are being conducted at each fire station, led by experienced trainers from the Funchal Fire Brigade. This comprehensive program includes both theoretical and practical components to ensure that the firefighters are fully prepared to use the new equipment effectively.
The deployment of these fire blankets is a testament to Madeira's commitment to innovation and safety in public services. As part of the Integrated Operations System for Protection and Rescue (SIOPS), this measure not only enhances the current response capabilities but also aligns with the region's focus on preventative strategies.
