The suspension of the Social Mobility Subsidy has sparked criticism from political parties and demands for resolution from regional governments, affecting Madeira residents and tourists.

The suspension of the Social Mobility Subsidy (SSM) has ignited widespread criticism and concern among political entities and residents in Madeira. This subsidy, crucial for reducing the cost of air travel for residents, has been halted, leading to significant unrest.

The Nova Direita party has voiced strong disapproval, accusing the Regional Government of allowing the central government to disadvantage the people of Madeira. The party claims that the elected representatives are failing to protect the interests of their constituents, describing the situation as an attack on the mobility rights of Madeirans.

Meanwhile, the CTT - Correios de Portugal, responsible for processing the travel reimbursements, are awaiting directives from the relevant authorities to resume their services. The interruption, according to CTT, is due to external directives, and they are committed to restoring normal operations once conditions allow.

In addition, the Government of the Azores has joined the criticism, labeling the suspension as 'unacceptable' and urging the central government to address the issue promptly. The Azorean government has reiterated its dissatisfaction and demanded a swift resolution to minimize the impact on residents.

The SSM plays a vital role in supporting the mobility of Madeira's residents by subsidizing the difference between the actual airfare and a predetermined affordable rate. This subsidy is especially important given Madeira's geographical isolation, which can make travel costly.

As the situation unfolds, both residents and tourists are left in uncertainty, awaiting a resolution that will reinstate the much-needed financial relief for travel.
