Engineers in Madeira are set to discuss the region's vulnerabilities to extreme weather events in an upcoming conference, addressing climate risks and preparedness.

In an effort to address the growing concerns of climate change, the Madeira Region of the Order of Engineers (RMOE) is organizing a conference titled 'Vulnerabilities of the Autonomous Region of Madeira to Extreme Events – Are We Prepared for the Next One?'. This event will take place on May 11th, from 2 PM to 6 PM, at the Rectorate of the University of Madeira, located in Funchal.

The conference is part of the 'Conversations with Society 2025 - 2028' series and aims to explore the vulnerabilities, impacts, and climate risks facing Madeira. Various experts and entities will participate, providing insights on how the island can better prepare for future extreme weather events.

Madeira, known for its picturesque landscapes and vibrant tourism industry, faces unique challenges due to its geographic location and climate. With increasing frequency of extreme weather conditions, understanding these vulnerabilities becomes crucial for both residents and visitors.

The event not only seeks to assess current preparedness levels but also to foster discussions on improving infrastructure and community resilience. As climate change continues to impact global weather patterns, such dialogues are essential for ensuring Madeira's safety and sustainability.

Local engineers and climate experts will delve into topics such as risk assessment, emergency response strategies, and sustainable development practices tailored to Madeira's needs. This initiative reflects a proactive approach in safeguarding the island's future against climatic adversities.
