The close-knit community of Madeira Island is in mourning following the recent passing of three esteemed residents: Manuel Bruno de Freitas Quintal, Rosa de Gouveia Batista, and João de Freitas Miranda. Their contributions to their families and communities have left an indelible mark.
Manuel Bruno de Freitas Quintal
Manuel Bruno de Freitas Quintal, a revered figure from the Sítio do Porto Novo area in Gaula, Santa Cruz, passed away on April 1, 2026. Known for his deep familial ties and community spirit, his funeral will be held on April 2, 2026, at the Igreja Paroquial de Nossa Senhora da Luz in Gaula, followed by interment at the municipal cemetery. A mass celebrating his life will take place on April 5, 2026, in the same parish church.
Rosa de Gouveia Batista
Rosa de Gouveia Batista, who resided in Sítio Achada do Barro, Santo António da Serra, Santa Cruz, also passed on April 1, 2026. A funeral service is scheduled for April 2, 2026, at the Municipal Cemetery of São Martinho in Funchal. Her family extends thanks for the expressions of sympathy and invites friends and relatives to a memorial mass on April 5, 2026, at the Church of Santo da Serra.
João de Freitas Miranda
João de Freitas Miranda, from Caminho do Margaçal, Ribeira de Machico, Santo António da Serra, will be honored with a funeral on April 2, 2026, at the Church of Santo António da Serra. A subsequent memorial service will be held on April 5, 2026, at the Church of Nossa Senhora do Bom Caminho.
