The luxury cruise ship 'L’Austral' arrived at Funchal Harbor on Saturday, marking an exciting event for both locals and tourists. This stop is part of a nine-day cruise from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to Lisbon.

With 194 passengers and 145 crew members on board, 'L’Austral' is staying in Funchal for a 25-hour layover, providing visitors a chance to explore the scenic beauty and cultural richness of Madeira Island. The ship will depart for Cádiz, Spain, on Sunday at 1 PM.

A Journey Through the Canaries

The journey began on April 28, and before arriving in Funchal, the ship visited several Canary Islands, including Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Sebastian de La Gomera, and Santa Cruz de La Palma.

A Touch of Luxury

Built by the renowned Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, 'L’Austral' is designed for luxury and resilience, particularly for exploring polar regions. It was originally constructed in 2011 and underwent its latest refurbishment in 2018.

'L’Austral' is part of the Ponant Cruises fleet, known for offering high-end cruising experiences. This visit to Madeira is facilitated by Blatras, highlighting the island's importance as a key stopover point for luxury cruises.

Funchal's Busy Weekend

Coinciding with 'L’Austral's visit, other cruise ships like Celebrity Eclipse and Valiant Lady are also docked in Funchal, making it a bustling weekend for the port. This influx of visitors is a boon for local businesses and tourism.
