Madeira is set to welcome a new luxury cruise line, 'Aman at Sea', to its ports by 2028. This announcement comes after representatives from Madeira attended the 68th General Assembly of MedCruise in Palermo, Italy, where over 20 cruise companies and numerous port authorities gathered to discuss future collaborations.
The MedCruise assembly, which marked its 30th anniversary this year, was a pivotal event for Madeira's port authorities. It provided a platform to strengthen ties with existing cruise operators and introduce Madeira to potential new partners. The island's participation in MedCruise highlights its strategic importance within the cruise industry, being part of the Cruise Atlantic Islands association, which accounts for 11% of MedCruise's cruise movements.
Patrícia Bairrada, the commercial director of the Administration of Ports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (APRAM, SA), expressed optimism about the new partnerships formed at the event. "We had very positive meetings, focusing not only on companies currently operating in Funchal but also on attracting new clients," she said.
The luxury cruise company 'Aman at Sea', known for its premium offerings, expressed interest in docking in Madeira, marking its first visit in 2028. This development is expected to enhance the island's appeal as a tourist destination, offering new and diverse shore excursions to visitors.
MedCruise, founded in 1996, represents over 160 ports across 22 countries, facilitating an annual movement of nearly 40 million passengers. Madeira has been a member since 2012, contributing to the region's growing reputation as a key player in the Mediterranean and Atlantic cruise sectors.
