The Liberal Initiative proposes extending health-based mobility to teachers linked to Madeira, aiming to remove legal barriers and ensure equality.

The Liberal Initiative, represented by Deputy Gonçalo Maia Camelo in the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ALRAM), has introduced a resolution advocating for the expansion of health-based mobility for teachers. This proposal aims to amend current legislation to allow teachers with ties to Madeira to relocate for health reasons, similar to provisions available in mainland Portugal and the Azores.

Currently, the health-based mobility framework, governed by Decree-Law No. 41/2022, is restricted to mainland Portugal, permitting teachers from autonomous regions to move there. However, teachers based in mainland Portugal or the Azores face legal hurdles when seeking similar mobility to Madeira, even when their families reside on the island.

This legal gap has resulted in significant challenges for teachers needing proximity to family and improved healthcare facilities. The Liberal Initiative's proposal seeks to address this inequality, ensuring that Madeira-based teachers enjoy the same rights as their counterparts in the Azores, where such mobility is already in place.

By advocating for this change, the Liberal Initiative aims to promote equal treatment of public sector employees, facilitate family reunification in health-related situations, and enhance the retention of educators in Madeira. The resolution highlights the importance of stability and support for teachers dealing with health issues, thus encouraging them to continue their professional journey within the region.

The proposed changes hope to counteract the tendency of teachers leaving Madeira due to these disparities, ultimately supporting the island's educational infrastructure and community cohesion.
