The JPP calls for urgent state intervention to ensure energy security in Madeira, citing geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions as major concerns.

The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party has raised alarms regarding the energy security of Madeira, urging the Portuguese government to provide guarantees against potential fuel supply disruptions. In a session at the Portuguese Parliament, JPP's sole representative, Filipe Sousa, highlighted the precarious nature of Madeira's energy supply amidst global instability.

Sousa emphasized that the current international climate, marked by geopolitical tensions and supply chain limitations, poses significant risks to the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores. He stressed the urgency for governmental assurances to protect these regions from energy shortages.

Madeira, known for its lush landscapes and as a popular tourist destination, relies heavily on consistent fuel supply to maintain its infrastructure and economy. Any disruption could have profound impacts on both residents and the tourism sector.

The call for state intervention reflects broader concerns about the resilience of island economies during times of global uncertainty. As a distant region, Madeira's logistical challenges are compounded by its dependency on external supplies.

"We live in an international context marked by instability, geopolitical tensions, and limitations in fuel supply," Sousa stated, urging immediate action from the state.
