Nearly 900 drivers in Madeira were fined for traffic offenses in 2025, prompting authorities to intensify control measures.

The latest issue of Diário de Notícias Madeira reveals a significant rise in traffic offenses in the region for the year 2025. Almost 900 drivers have been fined, a clear indication of the growing concern over road safety on the island.

In response to this alarming trend, the Public Security Police (PSP) has announced plans to enhance their monitoring and awareness campaigns. The aim is to curb traffic violations and ensure safer roads for both locals and tourists.

Traffic offenses can range from speeding to illegal parking and driving under the influence. The increase in fines signifies a need for stricter enforcement and public education on road safety.

Additionally, the region is witnessing an eighth trial related to online fraud. A 24-year-old woman with seven prior convictions for online scams is being retried in Funchal, facing the risk of imprisonment.

This dual focus on traffic control and cybercrime highlights the broader efforts by Madeira's authorities to maintain law and order and protect residents and visitors alike.
