Madeira experienced a series of events requiring emergency services, including an assault on Rua da Saúde and a car fire near Luso Brasileira.

Madeira Island saw a series of incidents that called for quick action from local emergency services. The first incident occurred in the early hours of January 29, 2026, when a 31-year-old man was assaulted during an attempted robbery on Rua da Saúde in Funchal. Local firefighters, the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses, responded swiftly to the scene at 3:50 AM. The victim, who sustained bruises, was promptly assisted and transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further treatment.

On January 28, 2026, the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses were also called to handle a vehicle fire near the traffic lights at Luso Brasileira, close to the entrance of the highway. Seven firefighters were dispatched with two vehicles. By the time they arrived, the fire had already been extinguished using a fire extinguisher, preventing any further damage or injury.

Earlier, on January 25, 2026, another assault was reported in Bairro da Nogueira, Camacha. A 48-year-old man arrived at the fire station on his own, claiming he had been attacked with a stick. Suffering from back and leg pain, he was also taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for medical attention.

These incidents highlight the critical role of the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses in responding to emergencies across the island. Their quick response and effective management of such situations ensure the safety and well-being of both residents and visitors to Madeira.
