The Madeira Volunteer Firefighters were called into action twice within the last two days, showcasing their dedication to public safety and rapid response capabilities. In two separate incidents, they demonstrated their expertise and readiness to assist both humans and animals in distress.

Elderly Woman Rescued in Funchal

In the first incident reported on December 27, 2025, the firefighters responded to an emergency call from an apartment on Rua Elias Garcia, Funchal. An elderly woman in her 80s, living alone, was experiencing a medical emergency. The firefighters, with the assistance of the Public Security Police (PSP), forced entry into the apartment through a window to provide immediate aid. The woman was quickly transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further treatment.

In a similar event the following day, December 28, the Volunteer Firefighters were again called to action. This time, they forced entry into a residence on Beco do Matadouro to assist another elderly woman who had suffered a stroke. Their swift actions ensured that she received urgent medical attention, as she was also transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

Dog Saved from Stream in São Gonçalo

On the same day, December 28, the firefighters were tasked with a different kind of rescue. A dog had become trapped in a stream in the Caminho do Pasto area of São Gonçalo and was unable to escape on its own. Two firefighters successfully retrieved the dog and safely returned it to its owner, unharmed.

These events underline the critical role of the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community and its visitors. Whether human or animal, the team is always ready to respond to emergencies with professionalism and care.
