The port of Funchal experienced a significant influx of visitors today as three cruise ships and a sailing vessel docked, bringing more than 9,500 people to Madeira. This marks a bustling day for the city, showcasing its importance as a hub for maritime tourism.
The first vessel to arrive was the 'Mein Schiff Relax', which docked at around 6 AM. Originating from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, this ship brought 4,253 passengers and 1,436 crew members. It will depart at 10 PM for Santa Cruz de La Palma, continuing its seven-day cruise through the Canary Islands and Madeira.
Later in the afternoon, the 'Marella Voyager' arrived from Fuerteventura, carrying 1,965 passengers and 781 crew members. This ship, staying overnight at the port, will leave for Santa Cruz de Tenerife as part of its Cruise Atlantic Islands itinerary, which includes stops in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and Madeira.
The 'Amera', which arrived the previous day, is carrying 653 passengers and 406 crew members. It is on a 27-day cruise from Bremen, Germany, to Panama, and will depart at 6 PM for St. Maarten in the Dutch Antilles.
Joining the maritime gathering is the 'Santa Maria Manuela', a sailing vessel with seven passengers and 16 crew members. It is set to leave for Porto Santo around the same time as the 'Amera'.
This busy schedule continues into Christmas Eve, with the arrival of three more ships: the 'Azura', 'Wind Star', and 'Le Laperouse', which will join the 'Marella Voyager'. This vibrant scene underscores Funchal's popularity among tourists and its strategic position as a key destination in the Atlantic.
