Funchal, the capital of Madeira, is gearing up for a large-scale clean-up operation on New Year's Day. This initiative, led by the Câmara Municipal do Funchal (CMF), will mobilize 120 workers to restore the city's cleanliness following the bustling New Year celebrations.
The clean-up efforts began in mid-December, targeting popular viewpoints around Funchal. These areas are known for drawing large crowds during the festive season, leaving behind substantial litter.
On December 31, a dedicated team of 12 workers from the Department of Environment will be active in Funchal’s city center. Their task is to collect abandoned waste such as cups, bottles, and napkins, as well as to empty overflowing bins, ensuring the streets remain tidy as the city welcomes the New Year.
This proactive approach underscores the city's commitment to maintaining its reputation as a top tourist destination, known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant cultural events. Clean streets are crucial not only for the enjoyment of residents and visitors but also for the preservation of Funchal’s natural beauty.
Madeira, with its unique charm and picturesque settings, attracts tourists from all over the world, especially during the New Year festivities. Ensuring a clean and welcoming environment is a priority for the local government, reflecting their dedication to both the community and tourism industry.
