On January 17, 2026, Funchal Port is bustling with activity, hosting three cruise ships and three mega-yachts. This influx brings over 6,000 passengers and nearly 2,500 crew members, marking a significant event for Madeira's tourism sector.

On January 17, 2026, the Port of Funchal is experiencing a lively day as it welcomes three cruise ships and three mega-yachts. This event is significant for both the local economy and tourism, as the port sees the arrival of 6,447 passengers and 2,490 crew members.

Cruise Ships Arriving in Funchal

The first to dock was the AIDAprima at 6:30 AM, carrying 3,117 passengers and 982 crew members. The ship is on an 11-day cruise that commenced in Kiel, Germany, on January 9, and after Funchal, it will proceed to Santa Cruz de La Palma, Gran Canaria, and conclude in Tenerife on January 20.

Following AIDAprima, the Spirit of Adventure entered the port at 7:15 AM. With 894 passengers and 505 crew, this ship is part of a two-week voyage that began in Portsmouth, UK, and includes stops in Casablanca, Tânger, and several Canary Islands.

Lastly, the MSC Musica arrived at 8:00 AM for its weekly turnaround operation. With 2,446 passengers and 942 crew members, it will facilitate the disembarkation of 331 passengers and embarkation of 334 new ones. This ship is on a seven-day cruise around the Canary Islands and Madeira.

Mega-Yachts Enhance the Scene

Alongside the cruise liners, three mega-yachts— I Dynasty, Artefact, and Canova—are also docked at Funchal. These luxury vessels add a touch of glamour to the port. The I Dynasty, arriving shortly after midnight, is on a layover from the Antilles with a planned 88-hour stay.

Impact on Local Tourism and Economy

The arrival of such a significant number of tourists is a boon for Madeira's local economy. Visitors are expected to explore the island, visiting local attractions and dining at restaurants, thereby boosting local businesses. The port's ability to handle such a large influx of tourists is a testament to its infrastructure and strategic importance in the Atlantic.
