Funchal Port is bustling with activity as over 6,000 tourists and crew members arrive aboard major cruise liners, boosting local tourism and economy.

The Port of Funchal is experiencing a surge in activity this holiday season, with more than 6,000 visitors arriving on the island. The influx is attributed to the docking of two prominent cruise ships, the MSC Musica and the Marella Explorer 2, at the Madeira Cruise Terminal.

The MSC Musica, arriving from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, brought 2,669 passengers and 938 crew members early Saturday morning. This ship is part of the Cruise Atlantic Islands itinerary, making regular stops between the Canary Islands and Madeira. The Marella Explorer 2, which arrived from Lanzarote, contributed an additional 1,752 passengers and 754 crew members to the bustling port.

Both ships are operating under the CAI (Cruise Atlantic Islands) route, a popular choice for tourists seeking to explore the unique landscapes and cultural offerings of the Atlantic archipelagos. The MSC Musica will continue its journey to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, while the Marella Explorer 2 is set to depart for Santa Cruz de La Palma.

The weekend will also see the arrival of the Costa Fortuna, expected to dock on Sunday morning for a 10-hour stay, further intensifying the already vibrant atmosphere at Funchal Port.

This influx of visitors is a significant boon for the local economy, particularly for businesses in the tourism and hospitality sectors. The port's activity reflects Madeira's appeal as a premier destination during the holiday season, drawing tourists eager to experience its mild climate and scenic beauty.
