Funchal Port Bustles with Over 6,000 Visitors Amid Cruise Ship Arrivals
Madeira GuideThe Port of Funchal welcomed more than 6,000 visitors as two major cruise ships docked, highlighting Madeira's strategic position in the Atlantic cruise itinerary.
The Port of Funchal was abuzz with activity on the weekend of December 27, 2025, as it hosted more than 6,000 people, thanks to the docking of two major cruise ships, the MSC Musica and the Marella Explorer 2. This influx underscores Madeira's growing importance as a pivotal stop in the Atlantic cruise circuit.
The MSC Musica arrived from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and was stationed alongside the Marella Explorer 2, which had docked the previous evening. The MSC Musica, managed by JFM Shipping, brought 2,669 passengers and 938 crew members, making a partial turnaround with 351 embarking and 366 disembarking passengers. After a short stay, it departed for Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Marella Explorer 2, under the management of AgĂȘncia Ferraz, had 1,752 passengers and 754 crew on board. It arrived from Lanzarote and continued its journey to Santa Cruz de La Palma later in the day. Both ships are part of the Cruise Atlantic Islands (CAI) itinerary, which includes popular destinations in the Canary Islands and Madeira.
In addition to these cruise liners, the port also hosted the Santa Maria Manuela, a sailing ship making its rounds between Funchal and Porto Santo, attracting sailing enthusiasts and adding to the vibrant maritime scene.
Looking ahead, the Costa Fortuna is scheduled to dock at Funchal on Sunday for a brief stopover. This continuous flow of cruise traffic is a testament to Madeira's allure for tourists seeking both adventure and relaxation.
