Funchal Port Authority Lifts Strong Sea Disturbance Warning
Madeira GuideThe Funchal Port Authority has lifted the strong sea disturbance warning initially set to last until January 7. The warning was due to high winds and waves affecting both the northern and southern coasts of Madeira.
The Funchal Port Authority announced the cancellation of the strong sea disturbance warning, which was initially extended until 6 a.m. on January 7. This decision was taken after a careful evaluation of the latest weather conditions.
Earlier, the warning was extended due to forecasts of fresh to very fresh northeast winds, with speeds ranging from 31 to 50 km/h, which were expected to decrease to moderate to fresh (20 to 39 km/h) by the end of the period. The visibility was anticipated to remain good.
Significant wave heights were predicted on the northern coast, with waves reaching between 3.5 and 4 meters, decreasing to 2 to 3 meters. Meanwhile, on the southern coast, the wave heights were expected to remain between 1 and 2 meters.
The lifting of the warning is a relief for local fishermen and tourists who frequent Madeira’s waters. The decision ensures safer conditions for maritime activities and boosts the confidence of tourism operators as the island continues to attract visitors even in winter months.
Madeira, known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, relies heavily on tourism. The quick response by the Funchal Port Authority highlights their commitment to safety and the well-being of both residents and visitors.
