In preparation for the bustling Market Night festivities, the city of Funchal has organized a large-scale cleanup operation. A total of 140 workers from the city's Environmental Department have been dispatched to ensure that the streets remain clean throughout the event. Market Night, known locally as "Noite do Mercado," is an integral part of Madeira's Christmas celebrations, drawing locals and tourists alike to the heart of Funchal. This vibrant event transforms the city center into a lively marketplace filled with seasonal goods, traditional foods, and festive music.
To manage the expected influx of visitors and maintain cleanliness, the municipality has strategically placed 156 waste containers throughout the event area. These include 54 containers for recyclable materials, 4 for paper, 4 for glass, and 94 for general waste. The cleanup team will be actively circulating among the crowds to promptly address any waste disposal needs.
