The Funchal Harbor Authority has extended maritime and wind warnings for the Madeira Archipelago, with strong southwest winds and high waves expected to persist.

The Funchal Harbor Authority has extended its warnings regarding maritime conditions and strong winds affecting the Madeira Archipelago. Originally set to expire, these warnings have now been prolonged until 6:00 AM on January 27, in response to ongoing weather patterns reported by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

Residents and visitors to Madeira should be prepared for fresh to very fresh southwest winds, ranging from 31 to 50 km/h, with occasional strong gusts reaching up to 61 km/h. These conditions are expected to affect both navigation and coastal activities, presenting challenges for maritime operations and beachgoers alike.

The northern coast of Madeira is experiencing significant wave activity, with northwesterly swells between 2.5 and 3.5 meters. While visibility remains generally good to moderate, it may decrease to poor at times, especially as the weather conditions fluctuate.

The prolongation of these warnings highlights the dynamic weather conditions typical for Madeira at this time of year. Known for its stunning coastal landscape and vibrant tourist industry, Madeira often experiences such weather patterns, especially during the winter months. The local authorities urge caution and advise against unnecessary maritime travel and activities that could be affected by the adverse conditions.

Both local residents and tourists are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and heed any further advisories issued by the Funchal Harbor Authority and IPMA.
