This traditional event, held annually on the night of December 23rd, sees the streets surrounding the iconic Mercado dos Lavradores come alive with locals and tourists eager to partake in the festive celebrations.
The Noite do Mercado is a cherished tradition in Madeira, combining the joy of last-minute Christmas shopping with vibrant street festivities. To ensure the city remains clean and welcoming, the Funchal City Council has launched an extensive cleaning operation. Approximately 140 workers are dedicated to maintaining cleanliness, equipped with a fleet of 25 vehicles, including street sweepers and waste collection trucks. This initiative includes the distribution of 156 waste containers strategically placed around the event area.
Significant efforts are in place to manage waste efficiently, with operations extending into the early hours of December 24th. The cleaning crews are tasked with collecting waste from the streets and ensuring the sanitation of public spaces, which are expected to be completed by 8 PM on the 24th.
