In an impressive display of innovation and engineering, students from Francisco Franco Secondary School in Madeira have taken the stage at the CanSat 2026 Space Race, held in Ponte de Sor from April 22 to 26, 2026. This prestigious event features the participation of young engineering enthusiasts from across Portugal.
The team from Madeira, consisting of Andrei Sauciuc, João Pedro Monteiro, Santiago Lopez, and Simão Gouveia, is guided by their mentor, Professor Jorge Monteiro. These students are part of the SPAR (Sala de Projetos de Automação e Robótica) project, which focuses on automation and robotics.
The challenge for these young innovators was to design and construct a functional microsatellite that could fit inside a soda can, adhering to the CanSat competition's unique requirements.
