The cause of the fire was identified as a stray firework, which set ablaze several materials on the balcony and a sofa inside the apartment.
The fire was first attended to by the apartment's residents, who attempted to douse the flames using buckets of water. The situation prompted the involvement of the Bombeiros Sapadores do Funchal, who dispatched 13 firefighters and four vehicles to the scene. The fire was successfully controlled, and ventilation efforts were underway to clear the smoke from the building.
