The night began with the Funchal Fire Department being dispatched to multiple locations due to fires set in trash containers. At around 11:30 PM, the first incident occurred near Hotel Meliã, followed by more fires on Rua da Carreira and Rua de São Francisco. The firefighters, comprising nine personnel with a heavy vehicle and an ambulance, worked diligently to control the situation.
Car Accident on Estrada de São João
Meanwhile, a separate incident involved a car accident on Estrada de São João. The Portuguese Red Cross and Funchal Fire Department responded promptly to the scene where two cars were involved in a lateral collision. A woman, suffering from chest pains, was treated by medical personnel and transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further care.
Mysterious Death Near Madeira Tecnopólo
In another part of the city, emergency services were called to Madeira Tecnopólo where a man in his 40s was found dead in a public area. Despite initial concerns, authorities have ruled out sudden illness or foul play, and the cause of death remains under investigation.
