Five consortia have advanced to the final stage of the Central Hospital of Madeira project, marking a significant step in the region's healthcare infrastructure development.

In a crucial development for Madeira's healthcare system, five consortia have been selected to proceed to the final phase of the Central Hospital and University project. This phase focuses on the 'General Infrastructure, Finishing, and Technical Installations' and is expected to be completed by the end of 2029.

The Secretary of Regional Equipment and Infrastructure, Pedro Rodrigues, announced this advancement after a thorough evaluation of the applications submitted. The selected consortia will now have 45 days to submit their proposals, paving the way for the commencement of the third and final phase of construction.

Strategic Importance of the Project

Pedro Rodrigues emphasized the strategic importance of this phase, describing it as a decisive step towards ensuring a modern hospital that can meet the needs of Madeira's population. The project is also seen as a critical component in establishing the region as a healthcare leader.

The final phase includes the acquisition of hospital equipment under the guidance of the Regional Health Secretary. The project, valued at €265 million, is set to begin in the first half of 2026.

"This is a fundamental step for realizing a hospital capable of addressing the population's needs and establishing the region as a reference in healthcare," said Pedro Rodrigues, Secretary of Regional Equipment and Infrastructure.

This development highlights the collaborative efforts between the Secretariat of Regional Equipment and Infrastructure, the Secretariat of Health and Protection, and the Mission Structure led by Dr. Pedro Ramos.
