Farewell to Four Esteemed Residents of Madeira

The Madeira community mourns the loss of four cherished individuals whose contributions and presence greatly enriched the island.

The Madeira community is currently in mourning following the passing of four beloved residents: Maria Nélia Silva Rodrigues, Isabel Castro Camacho, Maria José de Jesus de Sousa, and Maria da Silva Afonso. Their lives and contributions to the community have left an indelible mark on those who knew them.

Maria Nélia Silva Rodrigues

Maria Nélia Silva Rodrigues passed away on February 5, 2026. Her funeral will be held on February 6, at the Nossa Senhora das Angústias cemetery in São Martinho, Funchal. The family extends their gratitude to the Hospital dos Marmeleiros staff for their care and invites the community to join them for the service and a subsequent memorial mass on February 12 at the Sagrado Coração de Jesus, Boa Nova.

Isabel Castro Camacho

Isabel Castro Camacho, a resident of Travessa de Santa Rita, São Martinho, Funchal, passed away on February 5, 2026. Her funeral will be conducted on February 6, starting from the Hospital Particular da Madeira, followed by services at the same cemetery. A memorial mass is scheduled for February 13 at the parish of Santa Rita, Funchal.

Maria José de Jesus de Sousa

Maria José de Jesus de Sousa, who resided in Rua Nova de São João, Funchal, died on February 4. Her funeral took place on February 5 at the church of Nossa Senhora do Livramento, Curral das Freiras. Transportation was arranged for mourners from Lombo Chão and Pico Furão. A memorial mass is set for February 8.

Maria da Silva Afonso

Maria da Silva Afonso, originally from Canhas, Ponta do Sol, and residing in Ponta do Pargo, passed away on February 3. Her funeral was held on February 4 at the São Pedro Parish in Ponta do Pargo. The family appreciates the community's support and condolences during this difficult time.

These individuals, through their various roles and relationships, have contributed significantly to the fabric of Madeira's community life. Their funerals serve not only as a moment of grief but also as an opportunity for the community to come together in remembrance and solidarity.
