The Social Security Portal in Madeira now requires two-factor authentication to enhance user account security. This change is mandatory and aims to prevent unauthorized access.

In a significant move to bolster online security, the Social Security Portal in Madeira has introduced two-factor authentication (2FA) as a mandatory requirement for all users. This measure is designed to enhance the protection of user accounts and prevent unauthorized access to personal information.

Previously, users could access their accounts using only their Social Security Identification Number (NISS) and a password. With the new 2FA system, users must now enter an additional verification code. This code is sent via SMS or email to the user's registered contact details.

The introduction of two-factor authentication is aimed at preventing unauthorized access, even if a malicious party obtains a user's password. Without the second verification code, access to the account remains blocked.

In addition to the enhanced security measure, users can now log in using their email address instead of solely relying on their NISS. This change offers greater flexibility and convenience for accessing the portal.

Mandatory Activation

To activate the two-factor authentication, users must verify their contact information, ensuring that their phone number and email address are accurate and up-to-date in their personal profile. For those using integrated applications or systems with Social Security Direct, an access token must be generated in the authentication management area.

Notably, these new rules do not apply to users accessing the platform via the Digital Mobile Key (Chave Móvel Digital), where the authentication process remains unchanged.
