On February 19, 2026, Madeira's emergency services were actively engaged in responding to multiple incidents across the island. These included a man falling into the Ribeira de João Gomes, a grave roof fall in Funchal, and a wildfire in Câmara de Lobos.

Man Falls into Ribeira de João Gomes

In a dramatic incident, a man fell approximately six meters into the Ribeira de João Gomes, near a BP gas station. The Madeira Volunteer Firefighters quickly mobilized to the scene with three vehicles. The man was found conscious and holding onto his leg, and rescue operations were ongoing.

Serious Roof Fall in Funchal

Earlier that day, emergency services responded to a serious accident on the Caminho de São Roque, Funchal. A man fell from a roof and sustained severe injuries. He was promptly attended to by the EMIR and Madeira Volunteer Firefighters and was transported to Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça for further treatment.

Wildfire in Câmara de Lobos

The day also saw the Volunteer Firefighters of Câmara de Lobos combating a wildfire on the Estrada de Santa Clara, in the Caldeira area. The operation involved six firefighters and two vehicles, with support from the Public Security Police (PSP).

These incidents highlight the essential role of emergency services on the island, as they manage diverse and challenging situations to ensure public safety.
