Landslides and Infrastructure Concerns

The Madeira Volunteer Firefighters were called to address three landslides and three fallen trees on Estrada do Curral dos Romeiros, a key roadway in Funchal. Additionally, a wall collapse was reported on a footpath at Escadinhas do Serrado in São Gonçalo, prompting immediate action to clear access for residents.

Tragic Cardiac Arrest

In a separate incident, emergency services, including the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters and EMIR, were dispatched to São João after a woman in her 50s suffered a cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, she passed away. The local police, PSP, were also involved in responding to this tragic event.

Road Accident on the Via Rápida

Late on the night of January 1, 2026, a vehicle overturned on the Via Rápida near Ponte dos Frades. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed and was already outside the vehicle when the Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Firefighters arrived. The response involved 13 personnel utilizing five vehicles.
