Madeira experienced a series of emergency incidents overnight, including a car rollover, multiple assaults, and a vehicle fire, all requiring rapid response from local firefighters.

In a series of events that unfolded over the course of a single night, Madeira witnessed a string of emergency incidents that kept local authorities on high alert. These incidents included a car rollover, multiple assaults, and a vehicle fire, drawing swift response efforts from the Bombeiros Sapadores do Funchal.

Car Rollover on the Expressway

The first incident occurred around 3 AM when a car overturned at the entrance of the expressway in São Martinho, heading towards Câmara de Lobos-Funchal. Despite the significant damage to the vehicle, there were no injuries reported. The Funchal Fire Brigade dispatched five vehicles to the scene to manage the situation and ensure safety.

Series of Assaults in Funchal

Shortly after, at around 2 AM, two men were assaulted near the São Martinho roundabout. The victims, one in his 30s and the other in his 40s, suffered cuts and abrasions. Later, at 5 AM, another assault occurred on Avenida Zarco, involving a man in his 50s who was reportedly intoxicated. The injuries from these incidents necessitated medical attention, and all three victims were transported to Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça. The Public Security Police (PSP) were involved in investigating these assaults.

Vehicle Fire in Caminho Velho da Chamorra

In another alarming incident, a vehicle was completely destroyed by fire at around 5:35 AM on Caminho Velho da Chamorra. The fire department responded with eleven personnel and three vehicles to extinguish the flames and secure the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

These incidents highlight the critical role of emergency services in maintaining safety and order in Madeira, underscoring the challenges faced by local authorities in handling multiple emergencies simultaneously.
