Car Crash in Funchal
A dramatic car crash occurred on the expressway at the tunnel of Viveiros, heading from Funchal to Caniço. The accident involved a light car and resulted in injuries to a newborn baby, who was transported to the Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça as a precaution, and a man who sustained minor injuries. The scene was attended by eight members of the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses (BVM) and an ambulance from the Portuguese Red Cross.
Elderly Man Rescued in Funchal
Earlier in the evening, the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses were called to a residence on Rua Pedro José de Ornelas in Funchal. They forcibly entered the house to assist a man in his 70s who was experiencing medical difficulties. After receiving initial care, he was transported to the Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further evaluation.
Wildfire in Ponta do Sol
A wildfire broke out in the Poios area of Ponta do Sol, believed to be started by a hot air balloon or a firework. The fire occurred on the hillside behind the old PSP station. Five firefighters from the Bombeiros Voluntários da Ribeira Brava e Ponta do Sol fought the blaze using both heavy and light vehicles, successfully controlling it after approximately two hours.
These incidents highlight the readiness and efficiency of Madeira's emergency services in handling diverse challenges during the holiday season.
